Your Guide to Year-End Giving
Make your donations work harder—for you and for Plentywood.
Giving before year-end isn’t just a gift to our alma mater—it’s an opportunity to maximize your tax savings. Whether you itemize deductions or take the standard deduction, charitable contributions can significantly reduce your tax burden.
Why It Matters
-
Gifts may qualify for federal and state income tax deductions—especially beneficial in higher tax brackets.
-
Example: A $1,000 donation at a 28% tax rate effectively costs only $720 after tax savings.
IRA Rollover
If you're age 70 or older, you can donate up to $100,000 directly from your IRA. This not only supports Plentywood but also helps you avoid mandatory minimum distributions and additional taxes.
Montana Endowment Tax Credit
Montana residents can receive a 40% state tax credit (max $10,000/year) for qualifying donations to Montana nonprofits. For businesses, the credit is 20% (max $10,000/year).
